Most physicians will inform you not to drink coffee as it is one of the items included on the banned food list. The reason behind this is that it contains caffeine.

It can also trigger dizziness, tinnitus, and even migraine. So, can drinking coffee cause Vertigo? It will not cause it but there are certain conditions wherein you are not allowed to consume caffeine. One of them is if you are suffering from vertigo. Since it can cause dizziness and nausea it is best to just follow your doctor’s advice to help you get better. Stay clear from the food that is not allowed until you are clear from your condition.

Foods That Are Not Allowed If You Have Vertigo

Unfortunately, you have to get rid of anything with caffeine in the meantime. But if you can’t, at least reduce your consumption. It includes coffee, tea, chocolate, soda, and the likes. Since caffeine can trigger dizzy spells and migraine headaches if you already have them.

Instead of consuming different caffeinated drinks every day, just choose one and stick with it. If you can’t function properly in the morning without a hot cup of coffee, then go for it. Then that should be it for the entire day. Just wait until you get better.

2. Sodium

Another hard part is to lower your sodium intake. Since sodium can cause water retention, it can affect your inner ear if you already have an ear problem. Sodium can make ear infection worse so stay away from salty foods. It is easier if you can always cook your meals at home. That way, you can stick with your low sodium diet.

However, if you have to dine out, it can be harder to control. If you have to dine in from a restaurant, you can request to tone down the salt more than usual. Just inform them that you are in a low-sodium diet and they will be glad to grant your request.

3. MSG

Also known as monosodium glutamate. It’s present with Asian foods, instant noodles or ramen, and other seasonings.

If you can just stay away from these types of foods, then it’s the best way to avoid your Vertigo getting worse. If you usually use seasonings with MSG, just find a better alternative. You can also just stop using them and opt-in for a more natural alternative.

Putting in salt can already cause you a lot of sodium. So stay clear with the seasonings for now and avoid those potato chips since one bag contains enough sodium to trigger your Vertigo.


Can drinking coffee cause Vertigo? The answer is no! Coffee cannot cause it since it is associated with an ear problem, not from drinking coffee itself.

Since coffee has caffeine, it is advised that you lower your consumption if you are suffering from vertigo or dizzy spells.

This way, it will not elevate its symptoms. You can always have your coffee when you have been treated from Vertigo anyway. You just need to reduce your consumption since there’s nothing wrong with just one cup of coffee as long as you don’t overdo it.
