The caffeine contained in coffee has no additional benefit if we drink it at this time.
At the earliest 1.5 hours after getting up
Drinking the first coffee at the earliest 1.5 hours after getting up. In the time between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m., the cortisol level in the blood decreases again.
This time period is, therefore, optimal for the first cup of coffee. Around lunchtime, the cortisol concentration rises again, only to fall again around 1:30 p.m. From this time until around 4:30 p.m., the best time for the second cup of coffee would be then.
Anyone who drinks his pick-me-up coffee immediately after getting up does something wrong. This is what the latest findings say. Canadian scientists found out that coffee works at the earliest one hour after getting up. Between 8 and 9 o'clock in the morning, the level of hydrocortisone in the body is particularly high, and our body feels awake.
When we drink coffee then, it tastes good but does not contribute to waking up. The researchers go one step further: they explain that the effect of caffeine diminishes if we drink coffee regularly at this time of day.
Drinking coffee in morning hours
The body reacts increasingly insensitively to the stimulant when we have a habit of drinking coffee. If we regularly drink coffee immediately after waking up, we need more and more caffeine over time. Don't drink your coffee until an hour after waking up.
Then the value of hydrocortisone in the body drops, and the caffeine shows its effect. Directly after waking up, the hydrocortisone level is increased by about 50 percent, independent of the time of day. Most people drink coffee in order to feel fit and lively afterward.
For most people, the hydrocortisone level is particularly high immediately after getting up. Then again between 12 and 13 o'clock and in the evening between 17.30 and 18.30 o'clock. The best way to feel the effects of caffeine is to drink your coffee outside these times.
The recommendations of the Canadian scientists coincide with the tips of many nutrition experts: Drink one or more glasses of water immediately after getting up. The cup of coffee comes later.
For many people, however, the first cup of coffee is essential for survival. Without it, nothing works, and without the joy of a cup of coffee in the morning, you can't get out of bed. People react differently to caffeine. Even the awareness of it could not be more different.
So perhaps the little caffeine kick is simply not strong enough to trigger an effect. If you want to know exactly when you should drink your coffee and when you should rather not, just watch yourself, pay attention to when you tolerate coffee well. For a good digestibility, apart from the caffeine, also the way of roasting is decisive. It can be hard for some of us to get out of bed in the morning.
